“Danger!” champ Yogesh Raut takes aim at the relevance of the very game he won 3 times

He three games ‘”Danger!” a winner who has curious claims about the show that brought him fame and fortune on television.

Who is Yogesh Raut?

The quiz expert, blogger, and podcaster has been ranting on social media for a week about the show, claiming it’s not a real quiz show, questioning its value to society, and accusing it of being “fundamentally incompatible with true social justice.”

Routh said on Monday that his criticism of “Danger!” it’s not bad sportsmanship, and he resisted anyone who called him a hardened loser.

“I don’t know if it somehow can’t seem like that to someone who wants to read it that way,” said Routh, a 38-year-old resident of Vancouver, Washington.

“People who know me know that long before I was called on the show, I said the same things, the same feelings, the same words.”

Fans of the popular A&Q show met Routh on January 11 when he won the first of three games that were taped in mid-November.

Routh, a well-known figure in quiz circles, won $96,403 in prize money before being knocked out by museum translator Cathy Palumbo in a lively competition that aired Jan. 16.

Routh’s ongoing ranting sparked new interest on Monday when former Deadspin editor-in-chief Megan Greenwell satirized “Jeopardy!” “a multi-week collapse of the Facebook champion” to her over 31,000 Twitter followers.

Although Routh did not compare himself to Muhammad Ali, as Greenwell said, he cited the famous boxer as an example of a non-white American who opposed powerful interests.

Routh’s recent “Danger!” rants fall into several categories.

  • This real talent for quizzes doesn’t show up in “Jeopardy!” a show that has aired for 39 seasons. On January 14, he wrote that “Danger!” “will never top the list of my quiz achievements — not even my 2022 quiz achievements.” Routh also compared “Danger!” on an ABC show that takes place on a funny mini-golf course and wrote on January 12, “This is fun to watch, but has as much to do with a real-life quiz show as ‘Holey Moley’ has to golf.”
  • The quiz community has a “terrible gossip problem,” he wrote on Wednesday. Routh was annoyed that information was leaked that another big name in the quiz community, Troy Meyer, was in Danger! set at the same time, but this dream “Clash of the Titans” did not come true.
  • Routh was targeted by racist trolls during his “Danger!” limitation, and he seemed to hold the show somewhat responsible.

“Danger!” is a fun TV show, but putting it on a pedestal is objectively bad, it’s bad for the future of the quiz,” he wrote in a January 12 critique of the show.

“This is bad for women and the POC who want to be treated with the same dignity as their white male counterparts. This is fundamentally incompatible with encouraging the next generation of testers to succeed, and fundamentally incompatible with true social justice.”
