Dallas man accused of making phony temporary paper license plates, arrested after police found money and fake tags in Oak Cliff apartment

Dallas, TX – Dallas Police Department said they arrested a man accused of making phony temporary paper license plates in his apartment.

According to the department, officers found fake tags and $3,000 in cash at a building on Sunnyvale Street in east Oak Cliff, near Overton Boulevard and Illinois Avenue.

The police said a tip was enough to start the initial investigation which eventually resulted with an arrest.

The suspect was identified by the police as the 43-year-old Wayland Wright and he is charged with tampering with a government record with intent to defraud.

In the press release, the police department said the man admitted printing the tags.

Police said the paper tags are being used to avoid paying registration fees and, in some cases, to cover up crimes. It’s a problem state leaders have been trying to correct.

Tipsters can fake tags by calling the Dallas Police Department’s auto theft unit at 214-671-3535.
