Comedian Andy Dick charged with public intoxication for refusing to register as a sex offender

Actor and comedian Andy Dick was charged Friday with public intoxication and refusing to register as a sex offender, authorities said.

Dick, 57, was taken into custody without incident at Lake Elsinore, about 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles, after reporting a man under the influence of alcohol, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said.

Prison records show that he was arrested shortly before 1:00 a.m. and released about two hours later.

Dick did not immediately respond to a request for comment, nor did the lawyer who previously represented him.

Last year, Dick was charged with a felony sexual offense in Orange County, though he was never charged and authorities said the apparent victim was not cooperating.

The lawyer representing Dick in the case, Daniel Kapelowitz, called the case “completely bogus” and stated that his client is often falsely accused.

In another case, Dick was accused of molesting a taxi driver in April 2018 in West Hollywood. He pleaded not guilty, but was convicted by a jury last year and sentenced to 90 days in prison, according to the Los Angeles Times.

As part of the case, Dick was required to register as a sex offender and undergo 52 Alcohol Anonymous sessions, according to the Times.
