Former New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie on Sunday criticized President Joe Biden’s pending bid for re-election in 2024, saying the commander in chief is “old” and “an uninteresting candidate.”

During a panel discussion on ABC’s This Week, Christie, who has criticized Biden for everything from his handling of the economy to his foreign policy outlook, said he found it difficult for Americans to communicate with the president.

“In the end, Joe Biden is not an interesting candidate. He is old. He is boring. And the American people have nothing to do with him,” the former governor said.

Christie said the unique characteristics of the 2020 presidential election – in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic – were a “gift” to the current president, as Trump has increasingly become a toxic figure among independent and suburban votes.

The ex-governor, who saw his own chances for the presidency ruined by Trump during the 2016 Republican primaries, said the pandemic has shielded Biden from having to appear in front of the public every day.

Christie then stated that Biden would not be able to maintain a “traditional” campaign schedule, often consisting of several stops in different cities.

“Do you see Joe Biden in Air Force One making seven or eight campaign stops a day at age 82?” Christy said. “He’s not capable of a traditional American race.”

Biden has yet to announce his 2024 campaign but is expected to do so in the coming months.

If Biden, who turns 81 later this year, is re-elected in 2024, he will be 82 at the time of his inauguration in January 2025. And he will be 86 at the end of his potential second term.

Last year, The New York Times spoke to several people – some of whom were top White House aides at the time and some no longer working with Biden – who said the president was very passionate about his job and kept asking pointed questions. in the conduct of official business of the White House.

After talking to more than a dozen people, The Times reported that Biden “still engaged in intellectual matters, asking intelligent questions in meetings, interrogating dispute aides, calling them late at night, pinpointing the weak spot on page 14 of the memorandum, and rewriting speeches.”
