Chicago City Employees Seek Chief Executive

The Chicago Public Employees Foundation is looking for a new Executive Director.

The $3.2 billion pension fund posted a job listing for its top executive on its website with a March 15 deadline. The position reports to a board of trustees and oversees approximately 40 pension fund employees.

Dennis White, the previous chief executive, has joined the law firm Kahn Swick & Foti as a partner overseeing the firm’s services to institutional investors.

Sarah A. Beckman, partner at the law firm Burke Burns & Pinelli, currently serves as Acting Executive Director. She also previously served as Interim Executive Director of Chicago’s $900 million Annuity and Firefighters Benefit Fund in 2021 following the departure of Chief Executive Steve Swanson.

Mr. White joined the pension fund in 2019 to replace Jim Mohler, who left to become chief executive of the $1.3 billion Chicago Water Reclamation District pension fund.

Chicago’s annuity and municipal employee’s allowance suffered from plummeting funding ratios for years as the City of Chicago failed to make actuarially required contributions to the pension fund. Although the city began making these payments in 2022, the pension fund’s funding ratio was 22% as of December 31, 2021, according to its latest actuarial valuation report.

A job listing is available on the MEABF website.

Ms. Beckman and Stacey Ruffolo, Deputy Executive Director, could not be reached for additional information.
