Markel was gunned down in the garage of his Betton Hills home on July 19, 2014 by a pair of South Florida hitmen. Police and prosecutors believe his former relatives killed him during a heated custody dispute with his uncharged ex-wife Wendy.

So far, three people have been convicted of his murder: Luis Rivera and Sigfredo Garcia, two hitmen, and Katherine Magbanua, the mother of Garcia’s children, who acted as an intermediary between the killers and the people who hired them.
