Catalytic converter robbery woke woman who backed away and killed accused thief, California cops say

A woman sleeping in her SUV woke up to strange noises under her vehicle and shifted into reverse gear, according to the LAPD. Then she felt a blow.

Police, responding to her 5:56 p.m. 911 emergency call on Tuesday, Feb. 14, found that she had reversed and killed an accused catalytic converter thief, a press release said.

Another man and two women were arrested at the scene, police said. Their names have not been released.

Police said the four pulled up next to the woman’s Ford Excursion in a retail parking lot.

One of the men climbed under her SUV and sawed off the catalytic converter, waking her up, the report said.

The woman turned on the SUV and “felt a jolt like she’d run over something,” then stopped and called 911, police said.
