Bono, parents of Paul Pelosi and Tyra Nichols among State of the Union guests

February 7 (UPI) — The parents of Tyre Nichols, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Paul Pelosi and Bono are among the special guests who will be at the US Capitol on Tuesday for President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.

26 guests who is invited First Lady Jill Biden present issues or topics that President Biden will address in his speech. Some of them also reflect the policies of the Biden administration, the White House said in a statement.

Also in attendance will be RoWon and Rodney Wells, mother and stepfather of Tyra Nichols. Nichols was severely beaten by several policemen during a stop in Memphis. He was hospitalized and died three days later as a result of his injuries.

Last week, the sixth officer involved in his arrest was fired. Mourners, including Vice President Kamala Harris, remembered Nichols as a “handsome man” at the memorial service in Memphis.

“We have a mother and a father mourning the life of a young man… who should be here today,” Harris said.

Oksana Markarova, Ambassador of Ukraine, will take part in the address for the second year in a row as the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaches.

Biden announced last month that the United States would send 31 of its advanced Abrams tanks to Ukraine to help defend it against Moscow.

Although his wife Nancy Pelosi is no longer the speaker of the House of Representatives, Paul Pelosi will attend after a vicious attack by an intruder at his California home last year. The attacker brutally attacked Pelosi and reportedly asked, “Where’s Nancy?”

San Francisco police released body camera footage of the attack last month.

Bono will take part because of his fight against AIDS and poverty. He worked on the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and co-founded the ONE campaign to end poverty.

Maurice Dykes will be in attendance to speak about Tennessee Registered Teacher Apprenticeships. The White House said that Dykes is currently studying to be a teacher. He participates in the government’s apprenticeship program, the purpose of which is to help people to become teachers without compensation.

To draw attention to the mental health crisis, the White House brought in Harry Miller, a former Ohio State University football player. Miller announced last year that he would no longer play football to take care of his mental health. Biden has sought to address the mental health crisis by increasing investment in mental health support.
