Biden will still take part in the Fox Soul interview at the Super Bowl

President Biden will be interviewed by Fox Soul ahead of the Super Bowl on Sunday, the network confirmed, after the White House initially said the network had canceled the interview entirely.

“There has been some confusion since the White House contacted FOX Soul Thursday night,” a spokesman for Fox Corp. said in a statement. “FOX Soul is looking forward to interviewing the President for Sunday’s Super Bowl.”

fox soul is a network and streaming service that provides its content to black Americans. It launched in January 2020.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre tweeted earlier Friday that Biden was “looking forward to an interview with Fox Soul” but Fox Corp asked that the interview be cancelled.

Fox News anchors said late Tuesday that the network is waiting for the White House to agree to an interview with the president.

“The President is about to hit the road to deliver his message to the road. Every year, traditionally, the Super Bowl network gets an interview with the President of the United States,” said Bret Baier, the network’s chief anchor, during coverage of Biden’s State of the Union address. “We have officially requested this interview, but have not yet received an answer whether they are going to officially do it or not … we are running out of days.”

The presidents have routinely given interviews to the Super Bowl network, which has been watched by millions since 2004. Biden had been interviewed for the past two years by CBS and NBC, respectively, before those networks aired the game.

Former President Trump missed an NBC interview in 2018. Former President Obama has met with Fox News twice before the Super Bowl during his tenure.

Fox News, the most popular cable news network, has been heavily covering the Biden campaign and presidency, and several top prime-time anchors routinely criticize his administration, politics, and the family’s business dealings.

Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles starts at 6:30 pm ET.
