Andrew Tate sentenced to 30 days in jail on charges of sex trafficking and rape

Controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate was detained for 30 days on Friday after his arrest in Romania on charges of human trafficking and rape.

A Romanian court has agreed to extend the former kickboxer’s detention a day after local authorities searched his property and found that Tate and his brother had allegedly exploited six women who were actually being held in custody in some of his palatial properties.

The 36-year-old US-born influencer with British citizenship has been under investigation by authorities since April.

On Friday, outside a Bucharest courthouse, his lawyer denounced the extension of his detention.

“From our point of view, there are no grounds for taking this most radical preventive measure,” lawyer Eugene Konstantin Widineak told reporters. But that is the judge’s prerogative.

Tate and his brother Tristan – along with two other men – were arrested for allegedly running a criminal organization that lured women and held them for sexual exploitation.

“The four suspects appear to have created an organized crime group with the aim of recruiting, placing and exploiting women, forcing them to create pornographic content intended to be viewed on specialized websites for a fee,” Romanian prosecutors said.

“They would have received significant sums of money,” the statement said.

Tate gained notoriety for hate speech and misogynistic comments, alleging that women are responsible for rape and belong to men.

He developed a large online following on various social media platforms, mostly among young people who advertised the alpha male’s luxurious existence.

This week, Tate was embroiled in a digital skirmish with Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, taunting her that he would make sure the pizza boxes featured in his video weren’t recycled.

Thunberg, 19, had the last laugh, poking fun at Tate on Twitter after his arrest, writing: “This is what happens when you don’t recycle your pizza boxes.”

Tate, a former contestant on the British reality show Big Brother, runs Hustler University, which is said to have 160,000 users trained in business, investing and cryptocurrencies, among other things.

He is a former three-time ISKA Kickboxing World Champion and Enfusion Live Champion.
