Andrew Cuomo skipped event to celebrate his father’s governorship due to disagreements with former employees

Beloved late New York Gov. Mario Cuomo will be honored at a glitzy event in Manhattan Thursday night, but his disgraced son, the ex-governor, is missing from the guest list. Andrew Cuomo, The Post sources say.

The descendant of the state’s preeminent political clan – along with other members of the Cuomo dynasty – will miss the event and thus avoid contact with other guests with whom he has been at odds since he stepped down as governor in 2021 amid allegations of sexual harassment. .

Expected attendees include former Mario Cuomo aide Howard Glazer, who publicly ripped Andrew apart during his downfall, and Glazer’s wife Karen Hinton, Andrew’s former press aide, who accused the ex-governor of giving her a creepy hug.

“He came up to me and hugged me too tight for too long and was turned on,” Hinton said in a radio interview in March 2021. “I felt extremely uncomfortable and even shocked.”

Meanwhile, Glazer worried that the Andrew scandal might tarnish the legacy of his father, who is remembered by former employees and friends at the Flatiron Slate nightclub on the 40th anniversary of his first inauguration.

“Andrew Cuomo’s impressive explosion left many casualties in its wake,” Glaser once wrote in an article. “The legacy of Mario Cuomo should not be one of them. The rise of the younger Cuomo came on the shoulders of his late father, but his meteoric fall was entirely his own doing.”

One former employee of Mario Cuomo invited to the event said that Andrew couldn’t be in the same room as Glazer and Hinton.

Howard and Karen cracked the code. Under no circumstances should you shit on Andrew in public. They cracked the code,” said a source who knows both the older and younger Cuomo.

Andrew Cuomo denied Hinton’s accusations at the time and also vehemently denied allegations of sexual harassment that led to his resignation under threat of impeachment.

“What she said is not true,” Cuomo said at the time. “As everyone who has been involved at any level in New York politics knows, she was a longtime political opponent of mine, very critical for many, many years, and making many, many accusations.”

Glaser and Hinton declined to comment.

Sources told The Post that members of the Cuomo family were invited to the event.

Andrew Cuomo, through a representative, confirmed that he was not present and insisted that he was not invited.

“The governor did not know about this event at all. He didn’t have the knowledge and didn’t have a hand in it. He was not aware of any details of this event,” Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi said.

“It’s the junior employees from the old days of Mario getting together.”

One of Mario Cuomo’s employees, Allen Cappelli, said the event was meant to celebrate the legacy of Mario Cuomo and it would be too bad if Andrew got in trouble with some of the attendees.

“That’s Andrew’s problem. It has nothing to do with his father,” Cappelli said. “We have done great things together with Mario. We miss Mario.”

The Cuomo family celebrates the 40th anniversary of Mario’s inauguration. website, GovernorMarioCuomo.com. Sources close to the family said they are planning their own Mario Cuomo legacy events later this year.

Thursday’s event is hosted by the “I worked for Mario Cuomo” Facebook group.
