At least 14 people were injured in an explosion at an Ohio steel plant on Monday afternoon. The explosion happened just 15 miles from Cleveland and 70 miles from the village of East Palestine, where a train loaded with toxic chemicals was derailed earlier this month.

According to local news, the explosion at the I. Schumann & Co. in Bedford, Ohio, occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Monday.

According to Reuters, 13 people were taken to hospital, mostly with burns, one is in critical condition. One was recovered from the rubble.

The Oakwood Village Fire and Police Department did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Fire brigades from across northeastern Ohio were called to the scene of the explosion at the Bedford factory, Reuters reported.

Witnesses told Reuters that a large plume of smoke erupted from the building and the explosion sent molten metal debris raining down over the surrounding area.

I. Schumann & Co. has been making bronze and brass alloys since 1917, according to its website.

The owner of a nearby business told Reuters that he heard a loud explosion followed by the sound of a large amount of debris falling on his roof.

Another witness outside the factory said he saw plumes of black smoke, fire and a brick wall that was “destroyed” after the explosion.

Bedford, Ohio is about 70 miles northwest of the village of East Palestine, where a train carrying toxic chemicals derailed earlier this month, setting off a fire that engulfed the town in a cloud of black smoke.

More than two weeks after the Norfolk South freight train crash on Feb. 3, East Palestine residents are reporting a variety of ailments, including rashes, nausea and breathing problems, according to CNN.
