According to the feds, the man is packing a machine gun, a fake marshal’s badge and a bulletproof vest into his luggage.

Federal authorities said a New Jersey man is being charged with smuggling an assault rifle, ammunition and body armor with fake U.S. marshal credentials into the airport in checked baggage.

A 42-year-old man from Wallington, New Jersey, arrived with his checked baggage at Newark Liberty International Airport on December 30, intending to board a flight to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, according to a Justice Department release. February 27.

During a routine search of checked baggage, TSA agents found two handgun magazines, each containing 15 rounds, and a bulletproof vest marked “Deputy Marshal,” officials said.

They learned that the bag belonged to a man and began to search his other registered bag.

Inside, they found an expandable baton, a spring-loaded knife, a stun gun, a Glock 22 pistol, a DPMS Panther Arms rifle, and a 5.56 caliber AR-15 rifle, which is reportedly classified as a machine gun.

Authorities said that along with the weapon, TSA agents found forged documents and a badge with the man’s name and photo and said he was a United States Marshal.

The TSA confirmed to the US Marshals Service that he was not and never was a US Marshal and the credentials were forged.

Authorities said the man was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and fraudulent possession of a U.S. ID card and identification number.

Cumulatively, the charges could lead to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
