Accidentally shot in the head, 5-year-old recovers as he prepares for school

Tykeez Dondass told 10TV’s Richard Solomon that what he’s most looking forward to is meeting his friends on Monday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio. Tykeez Dondass is very excited to be back at school next Monday.

A five-year-old boy has been through a lot in the past few months.

In October, Tykeez accidentally shot himself in the head after picking up a loaded gun while at his aunt’s house.

After numerous surgeries, Tiki is feeling much better. His mother Shantel Dondass said it was a long journey.

“Life can flash before your eyes in the blink of an eye,” she said, holding her son in her arms.

“I was angry, I was sad… I was… there were so many emotions.”

Tykeez told 10TV’s Richard Solomon that what he looks forward to most is meeting his friends on Monday.

But it’s the realization that something could change the family’s entire trajectory when his mother encourages others to lock up any weapons they might have in the house.

She said this Christmas was even more special than usual because her biggest blessing came true – her son is alive and well.

“It was a struggle, but God is real,” she said.
