A pair of bald eagles in Colorado lays a new egg after losing eagles two years in a row

A pair of bald eagles living in a Colorado park laid their first egg this season after the tragic loss of two calves in a row in 2021 and 2022.

Future parents under supervision live cam that people around the world may tune in laid an egg Sunday afternoon, Standley Lake Regional Park said on Monday.

“The incubation period will last about 35 days, and then we will look for the eaglet!” V Park said Sunday on Facebook. They added to Post on Monday that “we have decided to call the male and female bald eagles at Standley Lake ‘dad’ and ‘mum’.

If everything goes according to schedule, we can expect a new eaglet to appear sometime in April.

Since 1993, Standley Lake has been something of an oasis for nesting pairs of bald eagles, according to the park. And while the location has proven to be quite ideal for the current pair of bald eagles being shown live, due to the nearby water and available food sources, they have had to face some difficult obstacles over the past couple of years.

In 2021, the couple’s nest collapsed, killing their only week-old eaglet named SL1. After their nest was destroyed, the mother and father decided to move a little further into the wilderness of the park, forcing the park staff to move the camera in real time to capture the pair of eagles from afar.

A year later, F420 and her partner lost two more eaglets, SL2 and SL3, although the reason for this is not clear.

According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, almost 317,000 bald eagles currently residing in the country, including almost 71,500 breeding pairs.
