A man has been arrested and charged with a 2021 murder in Fort Worth that killed an 18-year-old.

According to police reports, an 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder, punishable on November 1, 2021, for the murder of Joshua Balcazar in Fort Worth.

Police arrested José Nevares on Tuesday evening, according to prison records.

Star-Telegram requested a copy of the arrest warrant.

Balcazar, also 18, left the party after midnight on Nov. 1 at the 3400 block of Wilbarger Avenue, driving a black Dodge Charger. When Balcazar dropped off a friend in the 1700 block of Cachina Lodge Road in northern Fort Worth, he was shot at, according to police.

He was found around 1:15 a.m. in his car and taken to hospital in critical condition, where he died from gunshot wounds.

Witness information and CCTV footage suggests that a black four-door sedan was passing next to Balcazar’s car when he was shot dead. In December 2021, police asked anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting or was at a party to share information about what happened there as they continued to search for his killer.

Police did not immediately release further information about how they identified Nevares as their suspect.
