18-year-old Florida man charged with Warwick crash injures five

Warwick police said the 18-year-old Florida driver faces multiple charges after a two-car crash in Warwick on Thursday afternoon left five people hospitalized, two of them seriously injured.

The crash involving a Ford Escape and a Subaru sedan happened around 3:00 p.m. near 333 Sandy Lane, according to police. According to police, both cars were badly damaged and firefighters had to pull two passengers out of the Subaru.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police say speed and road conditions were factors.

The driver of the Subaru was taken into custody and charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing serious bodily injury, three counts of dangerous driving causing serious injury and reckless driving, police said. He will also be issued with several traveler’s receipts.

Police are asking anyone who saw the accident to contact the Highway Department at 401-468-4200.
